I'd like to fill you all in on the story of my friend Bobbie-Lynn
Steady moving forward, but her whole life was on pause.‎
This was 2008. Not yet grasping at straws.
And I never woulda met her if the bus drivers hadn't gone on strike
Mid December it was a blizzard and I saw her on her hike?
so I pulled up like "excuse me miss would you like a drive?‎
I'm from the east coast, so you can trust that i'll be polite." ‎
"well alright."
And in those 2 words it was like I could see inside
to strength and resolve, but there was something she was trying to hide

I still remember it was a very early moment ‎
When‏ she asked "are you signed up to be an organ donor"?
I'd signed my donor card and stuck it in my wallet
She laughed hard. "Useless" Is what I heard her call it.
I didn't know you had to sign up at beadonor.ca‎
That's in ontario, other provinces have other ways
It's maze. It's canada. It's not amazing. ‎
The only developed nation without national organ donation legislation.

Now this has probably got you wondering did bobbie live or die.‎
But I'm gonna make you wait, like she did for 7 years of her life.‎
The analysis and dialysis, four hours every 2nd night
Them needles and them tubes filtering blood for what ain't right.
You got your waste, your salt, your potassium and all that extra fluid
There's only so many access points, and she's slowly all losing em‎
But she's got hope. Of finding a living donor.
‎Most people said nope. But 13 said it would be an honor.

All those wishful donors had to go see their physician
Turns out most of them weren't in a healthy enough of a position.

You got the wrong blood type. Your antibodies ain't right
This one needs to gain weight. And these ones here need to lose. ‎
They found a single match. And ecstasy ensued
Except the living donor had a choice to choose and they refused.‏
I still recall the sobs when I took that call
she's feeling lost. A year later and life's still stalled.

But she's finally topped the donor list.
They found a donor. But that 1 am call she missed.‏
Meant she got skipped. What kinda cruel game is this?
She's got an infection. She's back in the hospital
She's questioning life. And is it all possible.

May 26 2014 and in came that call.
A trip up to heaven can bring life as well.
A 6 hour surgery and all our fingers were crossed.
You should see the lineup of pills she now pops‏
Yeah you heard it right Bobbie got her kidney
Two lives intertwined can combine really quickly
Now there's thoughts of a house and having kids.
Most of all she's got the rest of her life to live.
And organ donation can be a rather touchy subject
But if you sign up, a whole lot of people could benefit
